Leeds United's a player protects the ball from Manchester United's Leny Yoro in the Premier League battle at Elland Road. Key Moments Dominic Calvert-Lewin sees a early header come back off the post. Brenden Aaronson fires the hosts ahead with a low finish in the second half. Cunha responds just three minutes afterwards. The Yorkshire side extend their longest top-flight unbeaten run since 2001. The Red Devils' disappointing run of form continued at Elland Road, but manager Ruben Amorim had his Brazilian forward to thank for the team avoiding even more disappointment against their old rivals. Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed a first-half effort against the woodwork for the in-form hosts before the American midfielder finished superbly with a low, 62nd-minute effort. With the goal, Amorim was in the firing line after his side had failed to beat bottom-of-the-table Wolves at Old Trafford earlier in the week. However, against opponents who had less time to recover, the forward restored parity three minutes later when he latched onto a pass from substitute the Dutchman and guided a finish underneath rushing Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the Brazilian's fourth Premier League goal since his big-money summer move and came at a time when Amorim is without several key attacking players due to a mix of fitness issues and national team commitments. Not that you would expect the hosts to care about that given their own lack of preparation time. The Swiss attacker forced a full length save out of Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a spectacular overhead kick, and visiting heads were in hands when Benjamin Sesko, who is finding it hard to make an impact, turned Zirkzee's cut-back wide from six yards out. Cunha, who had a goal ruled out for offside much earlier in the contest, also blasted against a post late on. The point prolongs Leeds' unbeaten run to seven games, their best such streak since over two decades ago, and takes them eight points clear of the relegation zone. For the visitors though, it was yet another chance to move into fourth spot, albeit only for a matter of hours, squandered. Manchester United Breakdown: Amorim's Side Misfire Again With the AFCON reaching its knockout phase, Amorim could be understood for hoping the participating nations make a pretty quick exit. Existing injuries to skipper Bruno Fernandes and England international Mason Mount only heightened the impact the unavailability of other forwards is having on the team's options. It's not that the absent players are the solution to all of the club's problems. After all, they were part of the side that suffered poor results earlier in the campaign. But without them, the boss has limited alternatives in attack. He clearly does not have full faith in teenager Shea Lacey or the much more experienced Zirkzee, even though the Dutch forward delivered the through ball for Cunha's equaliser almost immediately after his introduction as a substitute. That leaves Cunha, who has now scored a small tally in recent outings, and others operating out of their natural positions, alongside Sesko. On this showing, the expensive frontman looks no better than previous underwhelming signings, lacking in confidence and conviction in front of goal. Sesko's failure to turn home the cross means it is now nine games without a goal for the new signing. Leeds United Breakdown: Another Step Towards Survival After memorable victories in their last few home games, the arrival of their fiercest rivals to Elland Road was a comparatively subdued affair. True, there were instances of expected atmosphere, but the intimidating edge was not as pronounced as in other encounters. The home fans were more preoccupied about their side's inability to get worthwhile possession in dangerous areas for any prolonged period. The striker's header that clipped the post was an isolated moment of quality in a tight first half. It still felt as though Leeds were finding it tough when a defensive error opened the door for the opener. For a short moment, Leeds' delirious fans thought they were about to secure a coveted win against their old foes. Nevertheless, there is a wider context for the manager and the club to deal with. When they suffered a poor run of form earlier in the season, many thought about the manager's position. Instead, he is now overseeing significant improvement. The job is not completed yet but step by step, Leeds are getting closer to achieving their top-flight status. Looking Ahead The Yorkshire club have a top-flight trip to St James' Park in midweek, followed by the start of their domestic cup campaign next weekend. The Red Devils face a Premier League trip to Turf Moor before also entering their cup journey with a Old Trafford tie.
