🔗 Share this article New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning. Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion. “That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.” It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable. “Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.” New York police shared security footage Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported. The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The perpetrator got away. Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn. “What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind. “There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.” Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation. He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field. Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.” Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
