The network's Top New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
